to R.I.P or not to R.I.P?
Message: Dji, I hope you can back everything up somehow...
So when you are ready to shine again you don't need to rebuild from the scratch...
Hoping for the best!

Hangin' out with Chucho
Message: Folks, we're out of time and resources. The site is going to go down by Friday and I don't know when it will be back up. I will try to get a ripped, static version in place at some point soon, but I'm not sure I have time even to do that. I'm not going to make any promises.

As one of my final administrative requests, I ask that during this dark time you refer to the BoB as being off "Hangin' out with Chucho."

Thanks to all who have helped with the technical problems involved with the migration. And to all of you who have contributed over the years, words escape me. I ring a very holy bell in your honor.

To Boris and all of Akvarium, of course, thanks for the music. "The music comes from God." Yes, Boris, but thank you for your part in the matter.

Status update
Message: Unfortunately, it's not as simple as just getting some hosting space. Our gigantic linghams and/or yonis are contained in a database measuring some 80 gigs. To display them, we must harness the power of Cold Fusion. They are mighty linghams and/or yonis.

I have found a hosting provider. I have pestered that hosting provider with various requests to the point where the site is nearly ready to function. However...

...I'm losing all of our Russian encoding. All Russian on the new site comes back as a garbled mess. We could probably avoid this problem by identifying a CF-enabled host that resembles my current hosting environment (older database version, older CF version). But I have not found one.

I'm running out of energy and time to work on this. I will keep trying, but there's a good chance that by this Friday this site will give up its Bodhisattva status, let go the wheel of life, and cease to be available as our guide.

If I fail in my efforts this week, I have one option. I can "rip" a static version of the site, remove the interactive functions (song submission, guestbook) for the time being, and let the site live on as a frozen idol carved into a virtual Afghan hill. (Minus, one would hope, some future Taliban.)

This is all unless I can fix it... or someone knows a techie who can answer this riddle: how does one convert data encoded as windows-1251 to utf-8? I think if we could do that we'd solve our problem, but I can't be certain.

Think good thoughts. Burn some incense. Torture a Microsoft representative. Every little bit helps.

Thanks,
Dji

New, Vague
Message: Folks, changes are a-comin'.

We have enjoyed a long period of free hosting thanks to my employer, but I am now changing employers and must find a new home for our little creation. I'm exploring the options and I'll let you know how it goes, but whatever happens will happen within the next two weeks.

Meanwhile, if any loyal Bodhisattvi have access to free or inexpensive hosting with Cold Fusion 5 and MS-SQL, please let me know.

Read carefully.
Read between the lines.
If you do read Russian.
The piece is just a propaganda type of scribble.
But it has its "moments".
There's actually funny commentary below "обсудить" - worth a read!
For example:

БГ святой, от него сияние исходит...
А на фотокарточке в статье у него всего четыре(!) пальца на руке. Где мезинец подевали, изверги?
